The Third International Conference on Innovations in Travel Modeling (ITM) will be held in Tempe, Arizona during May 10-12, 2010. The Innovations in Travel Modeling (ITM) conference series was launched in 2006 to provide a venue for modeling and planning professionals to come together and discuss the latest developments and challenges in travel modeling. The past decade has seen rapid developments in travel modeling methods and computational approaches. These methods have been characterized by a move towards activity- and tour-based approaches, innovative use of technology to collect travel and activity data, disaggregate microsimulation of travel and activities at the level of individual traveler and household, and dynamic network modeling. These methods offer great promise in addressing contemporary planning questions such as the impacts of a range of pricing policies, the influence of telecommunications and e-commerce on passenger and freight travel, and planning land use - transport systems that minimize the impact of human travel activity on global climate change. Methods, techniques, statistical and computational algorithms, and planning questions of interest continue to evolve at a rapid pace and the third conference in this series will serve as an opportunity for the profession to share the latest developments, discuss issues and challenges, and identify solutions that would have widespread applicability. The conference also provides an opportunity for attendees to identify research needs and define a research agenda for the modeling community.

The Planning Committee is pleased to bring the conference to Tempe, Arizona, in the heart of the bustling and rapidly growing Greater Phoenix region in Arizona. The conference venue is the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel and Conference Center located conveniently in downtown Tempe in the heart of the Mill Avenue District that offers a rich high-density urban environment within a short walk of the hotel. The hotel is also served by the new light rail line that commenced operations in December 2008. Attendees will be able to ride the light rail to Downtown Phoenix and other activity centers of interest during the conference. The Greater Phoenix area and the State of Arizona offer many great recreational opportunities and scenic vistas that provide an ideal atmosphere for an intellectually stimulating conference.
