Tempe is located in the heart of the Greater Phoenix region. It is located just 10-15 minutes east of the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which is the major airport serving the region. An alternate smaller airport, located about 30 minutes east of Downtown Tempe, is the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Tempe is located to the east of the City of Phoenix and is bordered by Scottsdale to the north, Chandler to the south, and Mesa to the east. It is home to the headquarters of US Airways and the main campus of the Arizona State University. The Mill Avenue District of Downtown Tempe is a shopping and entertainment area in the city popular with pedestrians and residents. With the completion of Tempe Town Lake, commercial and high-rise development along the lake quickly transformed the cityscape of Mill Avenue and the skyline of downtown Tempe. The Tempe Town Lake, located a short walk from the Tempe Mission Palms Hotel and Conference Center, features a waterfront walk, a beach park, and boating and recreation opportunities.
